Title: Keď život chutí (When Life Tastes)
Location: Kino Nostalgia, Súťažná 18, Bratislava
Organizer: Kino Nostalgia, Kinosála
Event Description:
Summer holidays are over, and Ben Pipetka, a twelve-year-old overweight boy with excellent cooking skills, faces the toughest year of his life. Based on a recommendation from the school doctor, he is forced to actively address his dangerous weight gain, which leads his divorced parents to work together in an effort to help him. Despite the care from doctors and dietitians, Ben finds it very difficult to stay motivated to lose weight. Besides his loyal friend Erik and his sister Sona, food is his only joy in life. However, everything changes on the first day of September when he sees his classmate Klára again. Because Klára always defends him and admires his courage to embark on a difficult diet, Ben begins to think that a real romance is growing between them. Unfortunately, his grand romantic gesture—a homemade strawberry cake—ends in failure. Ben feels like the whole world is against him. During class, he leaves school and struggles with depression under the covers at home. His parents have no idea what is going on with him, but their concern for Ben brings them closer together. His mother overcomes her reluctance and seeks advice from Sofia, his father’s new partner, with whom Ben forms a strong bond. Sofia helps Ben understand Klára’s rejection and reveals to him that one must also view the world with empathy for others. Ultimately, Sofia leads him to the most important life lesson: true love begins with self-love.
This heartwarming and emotional story portrays Ben’s struggles with self-image, relationships, and the journey toward self-acceptance.
