Frequently Asked Questions.

  1. Does a minor child need their own passport?

Yes, a child also needs a passport. In the case of a minor child, we recommend checking what documents (such as written consent from a parent) are required for entry and stay in the country they will visit. It is essential to know in which language the relevant documents should be and whether they need to be notarized or if the signature of the legal guardian is sufficient.

  1. What do I do if I lose my documents or if they are stolen abroad?

If such an unfortunate event occurs, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in the respective country can issue a so-called travel document. Based on this document, you will be able to travel to Slovakia and pass through the countries you need to traverse.

We recommend making a copy of the information in your passport and bringing two color photographs (passport size) with you. Store them separately from your other documents. You will need them when processing the travel document. A proper fee is charged for issuing this document, but it may be waived after assessing the circumstances.

In case there is no Slovak embassy in your location, contact any EU member country’s embassy operating in that area.

  1. For which countries do I need visas, and for which do I not?

You can find the precise list of visa-free countries on the website of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
