Alexandra Hrehová:
Although Alexandra Hrehová’s overall work is diverse in both theme and technique, her current paintings focus on issues related to femininity and personal identity. She primarily works with figurative painting, regularly incorporating folkloric elements and motifs, which connect the past with the present. A key symbol that appears in her works is the mask, which covers the faces of women, including her own, leaving space for the viewers to imagine themselves behind the masks. By using masks, she highlights generational traumas of women, opening a dialogue on this issue, which has deep roots in Slovak customs and traditions. Her works draw not only from collective memory but also from personal experience, as she seeks her own healing.
