Fats Jazz Band has prepared a special program for this evening, featuring both American and Czech and Slovak Christmas and winter melodies, which will be performed exactly as the first jazz legends recorded them in the 30s and 40s. The orchestra boasts a rare collection of historical musical instruments from the 1930s and an authentic interpretation of period recordings.
“At the concerts, we will mainly perform repertoire from our album Swingin’ Christmas. There will be well-known American Christmas songs like Let It Snow, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Jingle Bells, and White Christmas, but not in modern arrangements. Instead, we’ll play the transcriptions of their first recordings from the 30s and 40s, so they are full of pure, authentic swing and sweet, but not overly sugary, romantic tones. We’ll also perform the famous Slovak song Do zajtra čakaj by Viera Racková, which refers to Christmas, as well as Czech songs like Tiše padá sníh, originally sung by Jiřina Salačová in 1946, and Jako loňský sníh, recorded by Arnošt Kafka in 1941 with Karel Vlach’s orchestra. We will complement the Christmas romance with the hottest instrumental swing tunes,” informed the bandleader, Ladislav Fančovič.
Fats Jazz Band is an authentic hot jazz and swing orchestra—bandleader Ladislav Fančovič transcribes arrangements from original old recordings into sheet music through transcription. Therefore, you have a unique opportunity to hear jazz hits exactly as they were recorded by jazz legends of their time. The reconstructed musical instruments, period clothing, and the overall presentation of the orchestra and singers are in perfect harmony with the era they represent.
Despite its, one might say, old-fashioned style, the sound of the orchestra evokes something timeless. Fats Jazz Band brings ancient songs, which, through their spontaneous interpretation, are brought into the present. It is this spontaneity that gave the music of this period its magic, and this is undoubtedly what Fats Jazz Band will bring to the present day.
