Description:
The Iberian Peninsula is a unique geographic and cultural zone. In the second half of the 19th century, Spain in particular became a rich source of new inspiration. Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov experienced this firsthand during his voyages with the Russian Navy.

Manuel de Falla had the fiery spirit of a Spaniard but studied in Paris, aiming to merge these two worlds in his music. Nights in the Gardens of Spain is one such example. Although The Three-Cornered Hat is more overtly “Spanish,” its ballet premiere took place in Paris, with set designs by Pablo Picasso.

Spain’s cultural spirit also connects deeply with the Caribbean. The fiery Danzón No. 2 by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez is a musical firework display with magical energy.
