Description of the film: Director Robert Bodegas’ film is an attempt to reconstruct an unresolved real-life event. A young thief named Santiago Corella, known as Nani, along with his small group, is hired for a planned robbery of jewelry stores. The whole scheme is masterminded by one of the wealthy jewelers, who is soon forced into cooperation by the all-powerful police. In moments of danger, of course, the weakest become the victims. However, Bodegas’ film is not just a melodramatic story about insignificant and poor people who always pay the price when they get entangled with the powerful. It also evokes the socio-political atmosphere in Spain at the beginning of the 1980s, under the gradually decaying Francoist regime. Through documentary footage, it reminds us of a key moment in Spain’s history, December 30, 1982, when, after the autumn elections, the new Prime Minister, Felipe González, leader of the first socialist government, spoke for the first time. The golden age of many prospering criminals, including Nani’s “bosses,” came to an end, but the cover-up was harsh.
