Title: KLUB ZA ZRKADLOM / SINKS & ISLAND MINT
Location: Rovniankova 3
Organizer: DK Zrkadlový háj
Event Description:
Saturday evening will be dominated by the Brno-based noise-rock trio Sinks, alongside the Prague indie group Island Mint.
SINKS (CZ)
Live Session:
The explosive trio Sinks wraps the influences of ’90s post-punk, anti-capitalist attitudes, and authentic poetry into a biting layer of noise in their expressive music. The result is an intense, interactive sonic experience that sometimes approaches the limits of listenability. Sinks‘ noise rock is characterized by energetic live performances, with a rhythm section that is perfectly in sync, complemented by minimalist yet loud guitar playing and expressive vocals. A key feature of their live shows is the authenticity of their performance. After three EPs and a self-titled debut album in 2021, Sinks will release their album born into this only to get through this in November 2024 (both under Korobushka Records).
ISLAND MINT (CZ)
Live Session:
Light music for lazy summer afternoons or long car trips somewhere towards the sun and the sea – this is how we might describe the Island Mint project. Singer-songwriter Matyáš Adámek has been part of the Prague alternative scene for several years, previously as the frontman of the band Humdrum Lighthouse. Under the pseudonym Island Mint, he creates music inspired by the pop sounds of the ’60s and ’70s, infused with elements of psychedelia, shoegaze, and garage rock. The rich sound palette opens doors to dreamy landscapes that reflect Matyáš’s inner world. After releasing the debut EP Hazy Days in 2020, which features five sun-drenched songs balancing on the edge of hazy memories and dreams, Matyáš put together a five-member band featuring Jakub Bolbol (Branko’s Bridge), Tomáš Kovařík (Caldera, Goldhorn), Honza Podskalský (Cold Meat Party), and Ondřej Lahoda (Soul Ožil, The Blue Igloo). Close collaboration with musicians from different backgrounds has elevated the entire project to a new level. Currently, Island Mint is a full-fledged band that released their debut album Irreality in May 2022.
