Event Description:
A personal, funny, moving, and completely open film that reveals the most important moments in the professional and private life of the renowned film and theater actress Iva Janžurová.

In this documentary portrait, Iva Janžurová – an icon of Czech film, television, and theater – is viewed through the sensitive lens of her daughter, documentary filmmaker Theodora Remundová. This closest possible relationship allows the director to move freely within Iva’s immediate personal space. Through this perspective, we discover not only Janžurová’s admirable current professional activity but also her past career and personal life in historical context.

The observational style naturally blends with staged scenes, in which photographs from Iva’s childhood and key moments of her life come to playful life. We pass by important places and people, explore private correspondence, and engage with the works in which she has performed. The personal line of romantic, partner, and maternal love emerges as fertile ground for her passion for acting, intersecting thoughtfully with reflections on her acting methods.

A key element is her “ordinariness,” which Iva Janžurová has maintained despite her eminent position – her natural warmth and closeness to the audience, her ambition to give her best even in the most remote regions of the Czech and Slovak Republics, as well as on the stage of the National Theater. We follow a woman who holds a special place in the hearts of the Czech-Slovak public, seen through the film, television, and theater stories and characters she has embodied and continues to embody.

The film had its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2024 in the section Returns to the Sources.
