Johann Sebastian Bach frequently and systematically composed instrumental concertos throughout his career. Despite the work of biographers, many of his concerto compositions remain shrouded in mystery, with missing manuscripts or only fragmentary versions existing. What is certain is that Bach was especially inspired by the concertos of Antonio Vivaldi, though with his Brandenburg Concertos, he broke free from these models and created a new form that, in many ways, foreshadowed future symphonic projects.
The harpsichord’s solo cadence in the Fifth Concerto is especially innovative, as the keyboard instrument rises out of the basso continuo section—a signal of a new era in music.
This concert will be an extraordinary opportunity to experience Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos in their full glory, performed by the Slovenský komorný orchester under the direction of Ewald Danel.
Are you planning to attend this performance? It sounds like a fantastic experience for any classical music lover!
