FRAGILE is a Slovak vocal group composed of outstanding singing personalities who perform world-famous hits a cappella, meaning without the use of musical instruments. FRAGILE’s concerts are filled not only with excellent music but also captivating humor, guaranteeing an unforgettable evening full of great entertainment.
The hallmark and main feature of FRAGILE is the musical genre they perform. The term a cappella refers to vocal music — that is, singing without instrumental accompaniment. Simply put, while singers in regular bands rely on instruments to support their vocals, a cappella performers must rely solely on their voices. Since there’s nothing to hide behind, everything in a cappella must be pure and perfect. FRAGILE masters this challenging genre with excellence, as proven by numerous awards — including three OTO Awards (Personality of the Television Screen) for the most popular music group, and a Crystal Wing Award for their album Hlasy with Richard Müller.
The word “fragile” means “delicate”, which perfectly captures the essence of the a cappella genre — it’s fragile. When a group of singers performs together without instrumental support, any imperfection becomes immediately noticeable. A slight rhythm or pitch error shows like a blemish on clear glass. Even the smallest misstep by one singer can make the entire vocal harmony collapse. However, FRAGILE performs a cappella with ease and poise, and the energy they deliver from the stage is truly indescribable — you simply have to experience it live.
A Cappella:
The term a cappella comes from Italian and literally means “as in the chapel.” Its origins trace back to the Middle Ages when playing instruments in chapels was forbidden — only singing was allowed. Therefore, singing by individuals or groups without instrumental accompaniment is still called “as in the chapel” — a cappella. Such groups must rely solely on their voices, even in places where others use musical instruments.
