Workshop on Traditional Slovak and Ukrainian Embroidery.
This event follows the project Obrúsok/Cерветка/Servetka by Slovak artist Daniela Krajčová. Suitable for beginners and advanced participants.
Obrúsok/Cерветка/Servetka was a project by the laureate of the Oskar Čepan Award 2020, Daniela Krajčová. A series of workshops that offered Ukrainian women moments of peace, understanding, and solidarity. Daniela Krajčová’s original linocuts became the foundation for the self-expression of the participating women, inspired by traditional Ukrainian embroidery.
Daniela Krajčová’s work connects artistic techniques such as drawing, animation, and installation with participatory and collaborative methods. She fills her artistic expressions with universally sensitizing stories, presented without generalization and without losing the dignity and uniqueness of each participant’s voice. She often demystifies the idealized theme of motherhood through paintings on household textiles—bed linens, sheets, or children’s clothing. She addresses the psychological challenges of child-rearing, monotony, and isolation, reflecting on these issues through semi-public networks.
