Event Description:
The Christmas performance of the children’s folklore ensemble Hájenka will follow up on the “Year in the City” performance, where in June 2024, the children and leaders showcased the calendar customs and life in the city in their unique way.

The children’s folklore ensemble Hájenka was founded in 1988 in Bratislava, in the Petržalka district, where it still operates at the Tupolevova 20 Primary School. In 1994, Hájenka started a collaboration with the children’s folk music group Jarabinka. However, Hájenka and Jarabinka now perform under the common name of the Children’s Folklore Ensemble Hájenka. Last year, Hájenka celebrated its 35th anniversary.

Nearly 150 children, aged 6 to 16, attend Hájenka. Most of the children come from the Petržalka district. Over its 36 years, Hájenka has participated in most festivals in Slovakia, performed in many European countries, Taiwan, and has spent Christmas twice in Australia. At the regional competition “Vrť sa dievča,” it has won the gold band four times with advancement to the national children’s folklore ensemble showcase “Under Likavský Castle” and “Eniki beniki.” At the regional competition “Play for Me, Musicians,” the children’s folk music group won the gold band twice, advancing to the national children’s folk music showcase “Vidiečanova Habovka.”

In 2018, on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, Hájenka released its first CD titled “Ladíííme!”

Hájenka’s program includes dances, songs, and musical performances from various regions of Slovakia. These are games, dances, and songs from urban areas, Záhorie, Liptov, Terchová, Tekov, and Dobra Niva. The ensemble is led by Michal Štefanovič, Jaroslav Mendel, Tatiana Šišková, and the children’s folk music group is led by Zuzana Pokorná.
