CAMOUFLAGE:
The electronic band Camouflage is celebrating 40 years!
The iconic German band Camouflage will celebrate 40 years of existence. As part of this anniversary, they will embark on an extensive tour titled Rewind To The Future And Goodbye, with stops in Prague and Bratislava. During this tour, all their biggest hits will be performed with new arrangements, including timeless classics like Love is a Shield and The Great Commandment. An interesting aspect of this tour will be the visual component, where Camouflage has prepared special video projections on large screens. They even plan to involve fans, allowing them to become part of the projections. The band promises a very creative and original tour experience.
The 2023 tour will be held under the motto “REWIND TO THE FUTURE AND GOODBYE.” What does this title mean?
Heiko Maile (Camouflage):
REWIND refers to a rewind of our discography, and it was also the title of one of our best albums. It’s a review or a retrospective of our work so far, which is one of the core ideas for the upcoming tour, which is also part of the framework for our band’s 40th anniversary. “REWIND TO THE FUTURE” is a mental play with our own past and the history of the band.
This idea first came to me in 2021 when I was searching through our band’s archive for unreleased versions and demos. I came across many recordings from our beginnings, which really surprised me. Even though many of these ideas were still incomplete, they shared a strong energy characterized by awakening, curiosity, and a desire for a shared future. These recordings were made before our first record deal, and the FUTURE of the band was still far ahead of us. What would it be like if we could go back to that point in the history of our band? Back to our rehearsal room, to the time when we dreamed of recording a song in a professional studio, to the phase when we were learning new tricks for recording sound almost every day, or to the time when our initial attempts at songwriting became more and more confident. Revisiting and listening to songs that were written much later in the spirit of that initial starting point back then—how would our songs Suspicious Love (1993), Me and You (2003), or Shine (2015) have sounded in 1985?
This idea plays with our motto “REWIND TO THE FUTURE AND GOODBYE,” with the addition of “GOODBYE” symbolizing the current departure from old ideas and structures. Everything has its limited time, and so does the history of our band. Figuratively speaking, the last chapter is opening, even though we haven’t yet considered the ultimate finale.
