Event Description:
The documentary “Borromini and Bernini – A Challenge to Perfection” captures the story of the most famous artistic rivalry of all time — the competition between the two greatest architects of Baroque Rome, Borromini and Bernini. It also tells the story of Borromini’s struggle with himself. He was so consumed by his art that it transformed him into a demon who devoured him from within and forced him to choose death in order to achieve eternity. Borromini gave up everything to pursue his dream: to conquer Rome.

The film follows the story of an architectural revolution led by a solitary master who forever changed the face of Rome by pushing his limits. He fought against conventions and prejudices. With humility, he learned from the past in order to build the future.

The film features famous Roman landmarks such as Palazzo Barberini, Bernini’s baldachin in St. Peter’s Basilica, the churches of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane and Sant’Andrea al Quirinale, the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona, St. Peter’s Square, and Hadrian’s Villa.
