On August 8, 2025, at 20:00, Slovak Radio will host Avi Avital, Alessia Tondo & Between Worlds: Italy.
The closing concert of the 21st Viva Musica! festival will be a celebration of diversity, colors, and musical flavors. Virtuoso mandolinist Avi Avital is coming to Bratislava with his ensemble Between Worlds, which he founded in 2023 to explore the overlaps of classical, folk, and traditional music from various regions of the world. One of their first projects is the program Italy, dedicated to Italian music mostly from the southern part of the Apennine Peninsula and the influences that have shaped it historically and in the contemporary context.
“I’m excited to return to Bratislava and perform for an audience that holds a special place in my heart — this time with my most ambitious project yet. Between Worlds combines a rich mix of musical languages and traditions, intertwined with emotion and energy — it’s truly an electrifying experience,” said Avi Avital.
The concert will feature a special guest, the outstanding Italian world music singer Alessia Tondo. “I am immensely proud to share the stage with this exceptional ensemble led by the amazing maestro Avi Avital. I will try to bring all the warmth of traditional music from my native southern Italy, from the heart of the Mediterranean. It will be a unique concert full of energy,” Alessia added.
The rich program includes traditional songs, passionate tarantellas, lively Salento dances, as well as famous classical music works inspired by traditional Italian melodies and rhythms. Alongside traditional music from the Apulia region, the audience will hear music by Neapolitan Baroque composer Emanuele Barbella, selections from Igor Stravinsky’s Italian Suite, and a fascinating example of Baroque ritornello form in Torelli’s Concerto Grosso in G minor No. 6, Op. 8.
The result is a celebration of musical diversity: a meeting of old and new, classical and traditional, local and universal. Besides enjoying the beauty of music, listeners will be invited to explore hidden nuances, find subtle connections, and reimagine our shared sense of home in the world.
