If you are relocating to Slovakia from another European country, you are entitled to bring your personal belongings into the country without paying any import duties. This is because the importation of personal goods between European Union member states is allowed.
However, if you are moving from a non-EU country, you may be required to pay customs duties such as import and excise duties and value-added tax (VAT). There are exceptions to this rule, and you may be exempt from import duties under the following conditions:
- If the total value of the goods being imported does not exceed €150, regardless of the number of items in the consignment.
- If you are personally bringing in the goods from a third country, the value of the items should not exceed €430 if arriving by air, or €300 if using another mode of transport.
Personal belongings that can be brought into Slovakia include furniture, clothing, appliances, computers, and vehicles (bikes, motorcycles, cars). However, certain items are prohibited from entering the country, such as alcohol, antiques, asbestos, bullion and currency, chain letters, electrical appliances, fur, live trees and plants, pornography, precious metals, reproductions of bank notes, saccharine, and seeds and fruit.
